I Have a Secret

I'm ashamed to say this, but here it goes. I didn't vote this election. It's a secret not even my husband knows. It's not that I didn't care, in fact this is the first time I've ever donated money to any political parties. I even shared a glass of wine and toasted the new president elect.

But in my heart I harbor this black stain.
True I was out of town on election day, but I could have voted early or absentee. I just kept putting it off until it was to late. Now, I know that my vote truly doesn't count for the presidential race. After all, with just 3 electorial votes, who do we think we're fooling?
But the senate race? I never dreamed that the republicans would vote a convicted felon back into office. There is one thing I've become aware of this fall. It's not enough to just go vote every couple years. We need to write letters to our congress and senators to get our self hear. The washington bailout was a terrific example of the constituents making their wishes known.

It's interesting watching the political race these days. I haven't seen anyone come forward with a real energy plan. Well maybe T-bone Pickens (but he's not running for president). So I'm sitting here on a Saturday afternoon, wondering to myself, "How long is the oil going to last? 20 years, 10 years?
Everything will be so different. No mega super stores, no cars, no planes.

The other day I was watching this program about the mega hotel and islands built in Dubai. The spokesman said, they know the oil isn't going to last forever. So the response is, build more, buy more, spend more. Money will be worthless eventually anyway, so live it up.

So go on Mr. Mccain and Mr. Obama, keep spoon feeding us the same crap we've been fed for the last 20 years. Don't wake up the the public, because when you do tell us we aren't going to believe you anyway.

Polar Pathos

I had a very interesting conversation with my cab driver yesterday. Somehow we started talking about global warming. This is something he knows a little bit about. His wife is Inupiat and they've lived in the village of Wainwright all their life, have family there, and still go there. You don’t get any closer to the environment than that. The people that live there are substance hunters and have lived off the artic sea for thousands of years.
I told him about the article I’d read about polar bears drowning because the ice flows are melting. . “Did you see any pictures?” He questioned. I had to admit that I didn’t although I had looked. The only pictures I had seen were
animated carton bears . “There you go”, he scoffed, “something else made up by the environmentalist to keep the drilling out of ANWAR.”

Black Gold, Texas Tea

Even if we tap into and drain every drop of oil from the north it won't be enough to save us from ourselves. The only thing that will help is a long-range energy plan using renewable energy sources and conversation.
This is being approached in the same way corn ethanol was.
